Wine Of The Moment is just that. A moment of trying out a new bottle of wine and sharing our thoughts and impressions. There is no planned wine bottle that is to be opened or set time that it will be tasted. It is what ever just happens to be opened...for the moment. On occasion, we may also post our feedback on new wineries that we have visited as well as unique cheeses. So, pull up your own plate of cheese, crackers, and fruit and enjoy these discussions.

Chardonnay – 2005; Sister Creek Vineyards; Sisterdale, Texas
It’s hotter than the realm of Hades outside! What better way to beat the heat than with a nice chilled Chardonnay? Sister Creek’s Chardonnay is a smooth, golden buttery glass of goodness. This evenly balanced, mellow, toasty white wine is quite refreshing ...and we highly recommend enjoying the entire bottle when opened! It’s already aged eight months in oak, so why let it age in the refrigerator overnight after opening? Drink it!

Bending Branch Estate Vineyard; Comfort, Texas
A new boutique winery in the Texas Hill Country offers a unique selection of wines not typically found in other Texas wineries. This small family owned and operated vineyard and winery focuses on the Tannat grape, which is a bold, red/black variety. They have crafted a great red wine from this grape that will please Texas red wine lovers. Their Cabernet Sauvignon is flavorful and wonderfully pleasing to both cab and non-cab fans. Two white wines compliment the reds --- a Viognier and a Roussanne. Though the winery is just opening its doors to consumers, they have already started collecting awards at this year’s Lone Star International Wine Competition. Though their selection is limited for now, they plan to introduce their reserve line of additional varietals in September 2010. Their great tasting wines will have many first time visitors longing for a return stop on future Hill Country trips.

Ironhorse Red – 2005; Pillar Bluffs Vineyard; Lampasas, Texas
This Cabernet/Merlot blend (50/50) should suit both cab and merlot fans and pairs nicely with any good hearty meat or pasta feast. It is not too dry or too mellow and your initial taste impressions will perceive a medium bodied red wine. Savor this one, as Pillar Bluff may... not currently be making this one, but they do offer many other reds and whites worth trying.

Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve – 2004, Becker Vineyards, Stonewall, Texas
A favorite among many Texas wine lovers, Becker Vineyards offers a variety of wines that suit most pallets. Our inaugural tasting for “Wine of the Moment” is a smooth, blood red wine that can stand up to a steak just fine. This bottle is initially fruit forward, opening into a leathery rich tannin and full-bodied flavor. Robust and bold, this wine is one worth trying and one we recommend as our wine of the moment.
