Cabernet Franc – 2008; Georgetown Winery; Georgetown, Texas

Before there was Cabernet Sauvignon, there was a grape called Cabernet Franc. This parent grape has much to offer than just a blending varietal. Besides its taste and texture, Cabernet Franc ages damn well! This holds true for this wine created by Georgetown Winery.  Conceived in 2008, the tannins are still quite strong with that mouth puckering feel.  It’s very dry with some heavy smokiness.  This well aged wine doesn’t have quite the spicy notes that once enticed in its earlier years, but there are still pepper notes that linger. With higher than normal acids, you will know a) it will continue to age well and b) pair nicely with a fantastic fatty dish! Enjoy this one well and give some love to Cab Franc!

Blanco Brio – 2012; Flat Creek Estate; Marble Falls, Texas

Hello Spring!  What better way to compliment this changing season and celebrate new growth than with this chilled and refreshing Muscat blend from Flat Creek.  This white wine blend of Muscat Canelli and Muscat Blanc has the lovely sweetness and refreshing quality we begin to reach for as the temperatures heat up and the sun shines brighter. It just shines with intense citrus aroma and floral notes. Surprisingly, the color has changed little over the years for such a well preserved white.  That distinct slight effervescence still lingers for that satisfying taste one has come to know and love with this wine. Time has only intensified the luscious passion fruit notes in this bottle.  With the tropical mood set, you’ll crave for more.

Merlot Rose’ – 2013; William & Chris Vineyards; Hye, Texas;

With age comes beauty and this wonderful Rose’ is a testament to that. The flavors are still luscious and the aroma enticing. This beautifully aged Merlot Rose’ still holds much of its original character and lovely color. The acids are still strong, and it presents some very pleasant fruit notes.  It has a light finish that will make you crave for more. The late freeze of 2013 saw much loss on Texas grapes. However, this hearty survivor happily lived on to tell its story. Very pleased with the way this Rose’ has aged and held up over the years. Wonderful work William Chris Vineyards and cheers!
