Orange Muscat - 2005; Alamosa Wine Cellars; Bend, Texas

This dessert style wine is made from grapes of the Texas High Plains.  The strong citrus flavor and sweetness of this wine strikes a good balance.  It is a bit bitter when served room temperature, so most would prefer this one served chilled.  It has a nice not too sweet, but just right balance and is very smooth.  A good after dinner meal wine or something sweet to enjoy with your sweetheart when it’s 80+ degrees outside in January!

Texas Roads Winery – Canton, Texas

Having opened just a couple of years ago, this winery has the vision of increasing wine lovers awareness of the good wineries located in North and North East Texas.   They also have no problem promoting Texas Music at the venue, as well.  With a come in as a stranger and leave as a friend policy, you may feel like you belong here as you go through your tasting selections and chat with the owners.  There are four Texas Roads wines that you can taste.  The Cabernet/Merlot blend is great and somehow the wine maker has put the “Q” in a quality Muscadine wine.  Do take note at some of the décor on the upper walls and ceilings.  The antique bike hanging over near the bar adds character to the place.

Late Harvest Viognier – 2005; Becker Vineyards; Fredericksburg, Texas

Nick-named “Clementine”, this late harvest Viognier was a first for Becker Vineyards.  They are one of the first vineyards in Texas to plant and produce this varietal.  This wine vintage contains flavors of peach and some hints of nectarine.  The color is a beautiful buttery rich color, and the wine is silky smooth, and rich with soft buttery notes reminiscent of a nice chardonnay or rousanne. It is sweet, but not too sweet to be paired with a suitable entre.  This white wine varietal cellared fairly well over the years.  As far as the Clementine name, there is a story to that.  But you’ll just have to visit Becker Vineyards to find out more.

Savannah Winery & Bistro – Canton, Texas

If you do just one thing, then it should turn out great. Although there are a number of Texas wines to choose from here, the owner’s wine selection is just one quality 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon. It’s a great wine and deserves a special place in your wine cellar. In addition to making wine, the owner is a bronze sculptor who features some of his artwork at... the tasting room. The Bistro at the tasting room typically has a Dallas area chef making some fine meals to compliment your wine in the romantic setting of the restaurant. The place also happens to be for sale, so, if you’ve been looking to get into the business of operating a tasting room with a bistro, this just might fit the bill.

Jalapeno Wine – Comfort Cellars; Comfort, Texas

If you’re looking to put a little “zip” in your cuisine, than this jalapeno wine might just do the trick.  It’ll add some good flavor to your dish.  Just a dab will do.  Anything more and you’re at your own risk for something more than authentic Thai food.  If you have a cast iron esophagus, than feel free to have a nip.  Your taste nerves will definitely let you know their opinion!

Red Road Vineyard and Winery – Naples, Texas

The tasting room for this winery is located in a restored ice house built in the 1880’s.  Its insulated rooms make an ideal location to store wines.  The wine selection has been bestowed with some unique Gaelic names which lends a unique touch to the winery. Be sure to save some room on your taste buds for the Tristan Manuel. This five year old aged Ruby Port will put some country style Gaelic dancing in your feet.    In addition to the wines is some splendid artwork by the winemaker.  Both the wine and art offer a good reflection on the creativity of the owner.  On the weekends, you can probably also sit and enjoy some down home country music that is worth driving out to enjoy!  You’ll make new friends and have a good time as you enjoy the historic and scenic setting and enjoy how wonderful life can be!
