Ocotillo – 2021; Vinovium; Johnson City, Texas

Named after the native Texas plant Texans all know and love, this club members’ driven blend of 45% Montepulciano, 35% Sangiovese, and 20% Aglianico is a take on Super-Tuscan style wine. Sourced from Uplift Vineyards of the Texas Hill Country AVA, it pours a semi opaque red-violet shade with notes of cherries initially greeting you. There are some raspberries and a bit of leather as well in this medium bodied dry red wine blend. It’s not over the top heavy or very tannic and hits the good points about mid pallet.  Try a “take two” on the sipping experience and you’ll note some lovely earthiness to complement the adventure.  The acids seem to be at a good point, and it is developing quite well. This red wine jewel should evolve quite nicely over time. Salute!
