Merlot – 2009; Becker Vineyards; Fredericksburg, Texas

So, how is this 14-year-old Texas wine holding up?  Quite well!  If you did not see the vintage on the bottle, you might think this was a much younger wine of perhaps five years. There is almost no color deterioration noted as you pour this ruby gem into the glass. Notes of blackberry and raspberry are there along with some leather. Take those first few sips, and those tannins are still holding on to this well aged beauty.   There is a touch of vanilla but oh so subtle.  This almost full-bodied beast is quite a surprise and impressive wine to enjoy after all these years hanging out in the cellar. You can probably still hold this bottle longer if you have some, but to be honest, it is drinking so well right now, so you might want to enjoy a glass now. Cheers!
