Carménère – 2017; Kalasi Cellars, Fredericksburg, Texas

It has been a pleasure watching this “lost” grape making that slow climb back up the wine repertoire list.  Many may be familiar with the Chilean Carménère, but this estate Carménère from Kalasi does deserve its respect. Let the deep rich color entice your wine imagination into what is about to unfold.  Initially, the air will be filled with beautiful berry and plum aromas.  This will be followed by equally pleasing cherry and chocolate notes. The flavors are a big delight for this medium bodied red wine.  Was that a touch of paprika as well for a little spicy kick?  The surprises of this wine are quite amazing.  The acids are strong enough for a nice pairing with a nice fatty dish. Serve slightly more chilled than other red wines for a great tasting experience and do give this pleasing red varietal a try. Well done Kalasi and Cheers!
