Montepulciano Barrel Reserve – 2015; Solaro Estate; Dripping Springs, Texas

This estate wine will surprise you in many ways. At just 11.78% alcohol, you might get trapped into “pre-thinking” what characteristics this wine might have, but it is packed with some rich flavors and has aged quite nicely over the last six years. The light ruby red color and fruit forward sensation of this New York International Wine Competition gold winner is quite lovely. With medium acids and moderate tannins, this should pair well with a wide variety of your favorite Mediterranean dishes.  Raspberry flavors seem to dominate with a medium finish and a slight smoky finish that lingers to let you know that a repeat is necessary. Sip and repeat are highly recommended. Cin Cin!
